Course 101 Recap

I (and my fellow Freshmen sisters) graduated Course 101 class! I had the great opportunity to learn from my Freshmen mentors: Jamie, Deborah, Carolyn, and Amica, about a deep dive into the Christian faith, concerning everything about God, Jesus, and the Bible.

What is Course 101?

Course 101 is a seven week course that includes reading material and discussions with our mentor about tough questions in a Christian life. Before I took this course, I felt desperate to devour the whole book because I was in a place where I had so many questions about Christianity and the validity of what Christians believe. I could not ground my faith on something without any evidence, and Course 101 addressed many of my questions.

My experience through Courses 101…

While others start at the beginning of Winter Quarter or have one-on-one classes with a mentor, my group of Freshmen had a rather unique experience. First, we started about halfway through the winter quarter because our mentor Jamie had a baby!! Then, in the middle of our course, coronavirus put a halt and we were forced to finish the rest of the course online after Easter. Although this was quite dysfunctional, we were able to pull through with the silly “Skeptical Deborah,” fun acts that correspond with the lesson, song analyzing, and symbolic drawing.

Here is some verse art that my sister drew:

What did I gain from it?

I gained so much knowledge from this course, like learning about factual evidence of how the Bible is the complete opposite of a mythical story and that there is well grounded proof that Jesus has walked this Earth. I learned material that defined what the purpose of life and sin means and the importance of Jesus’ death on the cross.

How my life changed…

Through the course, I am proud to announce that I have made my lordship decision! The sudden halt in my life (with quarantine), my supportive and loving mentors, and Gracepoint material (like Course 101 and DTs) gave me a chance to deeply rethink the purpose and meaning of my life. What really spoke out to me in the course was how the text broke down the seriousness of my sins and how that affects my relationship with God. The course also did a great job of emphasizing how important and meaningful Jesus’ death and resurrection was.
